Bob retired from John Deere in 1977 after 29 years, and moved to Sybil Lake near Vergas, starting a hobby farm and eventually, Skillings Lakeside Resort in 1988. Bob loved animals, driving his tractor and fishing.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents and two sisters, Rosie Nolte and Fern Lenz.
