Robert D. Weissenstein, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday July 27, 2009 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Robert D. Weissenstein was born to Robert and Rose Weissenstein on Feb. 23, 1919 in Lansing, Mich. He grew up and attended school in the Detroit area. He then served in the United States Army from 1941-45. On Aug. 7, 1948 he married Celia Kubinski in Detroit, Mich. They made their home in the Detroit area.
Robert worked as a salesman for American Bakeries for 33 years. He and Celia moved to Detroit Lakes in 2004. Robert liked fishing, bowling, golfing and playing cards. He also loved visits from his friend "Jake," the yellow Lab. He will be remembered as a very kind, appreciative man.
Surviving Robert are his son, Robert (Patty) Weissenstein of Rochert; daughter, JoAnn (James) Youngs of Flat Rock, N.C.; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Celia (2006); one son, James Weissenstein; and two sisters, Dorothy and Wyotha.
Funeral services are set for 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with Monsignor Timothy McGee officiating.
