Roger James Herbst was born to Louis and Ruth (Fischer) Herbst on March 29, 1943 in Storden, Minn. He graduated from Frazee High School with the class of 1961.
Following a short time after his schooling, Roger enlisted with the Army National Guard. Roger farmed outside Frazee, raising white Charolais cattle. He enjoyed league bowling, hunting, fishing, trapping, collecting stamps, his German "spaetzles", John Deere tractors and having a well-prepared meal.
Roger loved animals and thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his nieces and nephews. He had tremendous patience, which was evident in the way he taught his nieces and nephews the sport of hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time at the family resort on Fischer Lake, visiting with folks, helping clean fish and just being out in the elements of nature.
Roger will be remembered and missed by his four siblings, Ralph Herbst of Moorhead, Marjean Kern of Frazee, Harvey (Deb) Herbst of Frazee and Nancy (Ron) Philstrom of Alpena, Mich.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one nephew, Steve Kern; and sister-in-law, Evarae.
Furey Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
