The fourth annual Snellman Days celebration concludes today (Sunday) in Snellman, Minn. Festivities will include a brunch, flea market, bake sale, fresh produce stand, all-day cookout, bingo (with 100 percent payout both days) and more.

The 55th annual Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion continues today and Monday, Sept. 1, on the WMSTR grounds in Rollag, Minn. Nimrod's Jubilee Days celebration continues today and Monday, Sept. 1, with festivities including a pancake breakfast (both days), "mud run," charitable bingo, fireworks display at dusk, horseshoe competition, softball tournament and prize drawings.

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge presents the movie "Mino-Bimadiziiwin: The Good Life" at 2 p.m. today in the visitors' center. Learn about Ojibwe wild rice harvesting in Minnesota -- an engaging portrait of a community on the White Earth reservation where people's lives revolve around the annual harvest of wild rice.

Auditions for the 2008-09 Detroit Lakes school musical will begin Wednesday, Sept. 3, and run from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the DLHS choir room and 7-9 p.m. in the DLMS choir room. Auditions will continue on Thursday, Sept. 4, and Friday, Sept. 5, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. as well, and also on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. The second annual Niimiiwin Gathering in Callaway is Friday, Sept. 5, with warm-ups at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 and 7 p.m. with grand entries.

The 13th annual Dick Beardsley Run is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6 in Detroit Lakes. Events will include a half marathon, two-person half marathon relay, 5K run/walk and kids' fun run. Those wanting to participate can register at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center by calling 218-844-4221, Ext. 118, or register online at www.dickbeardsleyrun.com. Beardsley and guest legend Patti Catalano Dillon will also speak at a spaghetti feed at the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes on Friday, Sept. 5. Dinner will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by the speakers at 7:30 p.m.

The Grace Community Church of Osage hosts an "End of Summer Blast" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 to kick off the opening of the "Cave" youth center. CTI Music Ministries will be here for the event. The "Cave" will be opened every Saturday night from 6-10 p.m. There will be special events, games, special music and evangelistic messages. Ages 13-18 are invited to attend.

The Detroit Lakes Wetland Management District hosts a "Celebration of the Prairie" at a Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) called Hoykens, located three miles south of Hitterdal, just off State Highway 32 and 57th Ave N. Prairie Fun Day will include a discussion about Refuges and Wetland Management Districts, Prairie Ecosystems, and the Value of Federal Duck Stamps beginning at 10 a.m. A picnic lunch will be served at noon.

An exhibit of "Works in Various Media" by Detroit Lakes artist Linda Doebbert will be on display in the main meeting room through Sept. 30 at the Detroit Lakes Public Library, and examples of handmade book styles by Linda Doebbert will also be on exhibit in the library's upstairs reading room. The Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center is now taking registrations for the 2008-09 DLCCC After School Program. The program allows students in grades K-6 to get a balance of the arts and physical activity. Activities will include arts-related workshops such as acting, dance, glass making, clowning and theatre tech, as well as gym and swim time and sports clinics. The program is available throughout the school year, Monday through Friday, 3:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per day, per child with a two day per week commitment. On May 1, 1960, Captain Francis Gary Powers was shot down over the Soviet Union while piloting his U2 spy plane sparking one of the most famous international incidents of the Cold War. The latest exhibit at the In Their Own Words (ITOW) Veterans Museum, "Top Secret," which opened May 1 and continues through Oct. 31, includes photographs andartifacts from the Cold War Museum about the U-2 Incident. A new exhibit about Butler Township, created specifically for Butler's recent 125th anniversary celebration, is now on display at the History Museum of East Otter Tail County in Perham. Photographs and stories about the township will be on display through the end of the year.  The History Museum is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Admission is free. The Becker County Historical Society is happy to announce extended museum hours this fall. Starting in September, the Becker County Museum & Research Library will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with extended hours on Thursdays 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The museum is located at 714 Summit Ave., next to the DL Community & Cultural Center.
