Roseau man gets more than 17 years for sex crimes
A Roseau, Minn., man was ordered to serve more than 17 years in prison Monday for having sexual contact with two girls.
Carson Monsrud, 39, pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Roseau County Attorney Lisa Hanson said Monsrud had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl in September 2007. On that charge, he was sentenced to five years in prison.
Hanson said Monsrud sexually penetrated a 6-year-old girl in the fall of 2008. He has to serve 12 years and nine months on that charge.
Hanson said Monsrud was drunk when he committed both crimes. The offenses were reported in the fall of 2008, and Monsrud has been in custody since December 2008, she said.
He'll be supervised for 10 years following his release from prison. He must also register as a sex offender.
