Roy V. Hanson, 88. of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at his residence.
Roy Vernon Hanson was born to Arthur and Mabel (Crowser) Hanson on May 25, 1923 in Detroit Lakes. He grew up and attended District 7 Country School in Richwood Township. He then attended the Crookston Agricultural High School, graduating in 1940.
In 1954 Roy was united in marriage to Lois Conat in Bemidji. They made their home and farmed in Richwood Township. In 1955 Roy purchased his own farm in Richwood Township. Lois died in 1956 and on June 17, 1957 Roy married Lorraine Hart in Detroit Lakes. Roy and Lorraine farmed in Richwood Township for many years.
Roy was very active at First Baptist Church in Detroit Lakes, serving as a deacon and also as a trustee. Roy was also a Gideon. He was a faithful reader of his bible and also kept a daily journal. Roy was very proud of the fact that he was the fourth generation on his family's century farm.
Surviving Roy are his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Ruth (Paul) Butcher of Detroit Lakes and Carol (Steve) Viste of Audubon; two sons, Vernon (Lanette) Hanson and Bert (Saundra) Hanson, both of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Esther Thorpe of Detroit Lakes and Alyce Vanderpoel of Milaca, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Lois (1956); his parents; and one brother, Earl Hanson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at the West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at First Baptist Church, Detroit Lakes, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
