RSVP honors volunteers
On Thursday, March 17, 55 RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) volunteers were treated to a recognition event in Detroit Lakes to celebrate their contributions in their Becker County communities.
The Adventist Community Service Center Thrift Store, Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, Oak Crossing, Lamplighter Manor Exercise Group, Let’s Go Fishing, Becker County Food Pantry, and Lake Park Exercise Group were just some of the volunteer stations that were represented at the event.
The day included many “green” themes to go with the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, including Sandy Gunderson from Becker County Environmental Services speaking to the group about the importance of recycling; lunch followed by a “green” dessert; and bingo for “green” prizes.
RSVP, which is a part of the Senior Corps, is America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and older; it is federally administered and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
