Ruby Steeke, 79, of Frazee, died on Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Tamarac Place Assisted Living, Pelican Rapids under the care of Lakeland Hospice.
Ruby Ida Krueger was born the daughter of William and Martha (Bahls) Krueger on June 6, 1928 in Perham. She lived near Frazee, where she was raised and attended country school. She married Walter Steeke on Jan. 12, 1949 in Frazee.
Ruby worked for the Swift Turkey Plant in Frazee and Detroit Lakes until her retirement. In 1967, she and Walter moved into Frazee. Walter died on July 11, 1994. Ruby entered the Tamarac Place Assisted Living in 2006.
Ruby enjoyed gardening, embroidery, crocheting, feeding and watching birds, traveling and knitting.
Surviving Ruby are her three sons, Calvin (Jo Ann) Steeke, Glen Steeke and Gene (Diane) Steeke, all of Frazee; a daughter, Vickie (Mark) Putney of Fargo; a brother, Wilbert (Imogene) Krueger of Sealy, Texas; five sisters, Eleanor Berndt of Lidgerwood, N.D., Clara Johnson of Pelican Rapids, Gladys Soland of Ashby, Minn., Noreen Huwe of Detroit Lakes and Marcella (Emil) Huwe of Franklin, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter; a daughter, Bernice Wegscheid; a grandson, Shawn; her parents; two brothers, Willard and Wilfred; and a sister, Ann.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 in the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, continuing for one hour prior to Thursday's service in the funeral home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Furey Funeral Home, Frazee with the Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee. Arrangements are being provided by the Furey Funeral Home in Frazee.
