Running for county office? Deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday

So far, only Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon has a challenger in county elections in November.

Filing opened July 4, and Gordon and Deputy Jay Nelson have both filed for the sheriff's job.

In other races, only incumbents have filed so far: Commissioners Bob Bristlin and Harry Salminen have filed for re-election; Joe Evans has filed for county attorney; Treasurer Ryan Tangen has filed for the newly-created auditor-treasurer position, and Darlene Maneval has filed for county recorder. All are four-year terms.

Salminen represents District 2 on the county board, which includes wards 2 and 3 in Detroit Lakes and Lake View Township.

Bristlin represents District 4, which includes Audubon Township, Detroit Township, the city of Audubon and ward 1 in Detroit Lakes.

Filing closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the courthouse.

The fee is $50 for county offices and $20 for Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor.

Two incumbents on the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District board, Jerry Flottemesch and Don Lefebvre, have also filed.

Also on the ballot will be the position of county coroner, now held by Dr. Knute Thorsgard, and county surveyor, held by Roy Smith. They are considered part-time positions.
