GRAND FORKS - Rod Partlow of rural Grand Forks was airlifted to a Minneapolis hospital Tuesday after he fell off a mower this afternoon, getting trapped under a spinning tire and suffering friction burn injuries.

Partlow, 61, was driving a John Deere tractor mower southwest of the city on 47th Avenue South, about 4 miles west of Interstate 29, when he apparently had a seizure, according to Maj. Mike Fonder of the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department.

His tractor struck a retaining wall near his house and Partlow fell off and was trapped under the right rear tire, which kept spinning.

Unable to get the tractor turned off, Partlow's mother called neighbors, who switched it off. A neighbor used his loader tractor to lift the tractor mower off Partlow while a deputy pulled him out.

Partlow's injuries included friction burns to the middle section of his body and upper legs from the spinning tire. He was taken to Altru Hospital by ambulance.

From Altru, Partlow was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, an Altru nursing supervisor said.
