Ryan D. Sands, 47, of rural Callaway, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in St. Cloud, Minn.
Ryan was born the son of Don and Arlyn (Johnson) Sands on July 14, 1962 in Detroit Lakes, where he was raised and educated. Ryan graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1980. At the age of 15, he began working at Grover-Lindberg Distributing Inc., and continued to work there for 25 years, holding many positions.
Ryan married Christine Wallgren on May 14, 1983 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. After Grover- Lindberg closed, Ryan started working at Walmart in Detroit Lakes.
Ryan enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, reading and sport activities. He was active in sports with his sons, and really enjoyed the time he spent with them. Ryan also enjoyed time spent with his nieces and nephews.
Surviving Ryan are his wife, Christine Sands of rural Callaway; two sons, Justin Sands of Crookston, Minn., and Grant Sands of rural Callaway; parents, Don and Arlyn Sands of Detroit Lakes; two sisters, Joan (Clark) Firestone of Dayton, Ore., and Rhonda (Dan) Mohn of Rochert; five brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Sheryl) Wallgren of Alice, Texas, Douglas (Michealle) Wallgren of Osseo, Minn., Robert (Janet) Wallgren of Carlos, Minn., Roger (Theresa Tjon) Wallgren of Moorhead and Daniel (Sheila) Wallgren of Brandon, S.D.; one sister-in-law, Elaine (John) Ruscheinsky of Spokane, Wash.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ryan in death were his grandparents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Rosemarie Wallgren, and a brother-in-law, James Wallgren.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Dan Babine officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
