Sadie Blauert, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.

Sadie was born the daughter of John and Magdalena (Litzau) Sperling on July 15, 1920 in Frazee. She attended school in District 22, Height of Land Township, prior to attending Washington Elementary in Detroit Lakes. Sadie married Arthur Blauert in October 1937 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Height of Land. She worked at Lakeside Resort and Breezy Shores in the Detroit Lakes area as a housekeeper. Sadie also worked at the Frazee turkey plant for a time before returning to housekeeping at St. Mary's Hospital and Emmanuel Nursing Home. She retired in 1983.

During her retirement years, Sadie had a paper route which she enjoyed. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards and gardening. Sadie was known for always having a pot of coffee on and the door open for anyone to stop by. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving Sadie are her son, Ray (Carol) Blauert of Detroit Lakes; daughter, Sheila Blauert of Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Edmond (Barb) Sperling of Evansville, Ind.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Sadie in death were her parents; husband Arthur (1953); son, Donald; daughter, Carolyn Blauert; brother, Elmer Sperling; and sisters, Clara Clark, Leona Jahnke, Helen Sperling and Lily Olund.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Height of Land, rural Frazee, with interment following at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Height of Land.
