Only half of the top seeds survived the first round of the Pine to Palm Senior’s match play, as defending champion Tim Rubis fell out of contention after losing to Rick Samson 2-up.

But the 2014 medalist Rob Harris will proceed for the potential sweep after he downed T.J. Solien 2 and 1 to advance to face Rick Johnson, who was a 4 and 3 winner over Craig Stein.

Samson will now play Larry Olin, who was a 3 and 1 winner over Scott Peters.

In the other upper-bracket match, former champion Scott Linnerooth will play Tom Thompson. Both players beat their first-round opponents 3 and 2.

In the final bottom bracket match, Jim Brothers and John Hagge will play, as Brothers won handily over Brad Solheim 5 and 4.

Hagge downed Jim Strandemo 2 and 1.

The Seniors will tee off at 12:55 and 1:03 p.m. on the first tee.
