Sandra K. Seydel, 59, of Willmar, died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, after courageously battling cancer for nearly four years.

Sandra Kay Otto was born the daughter of Alfred and Elmira (Krentz) Otto on Sept. 9, 1949, in New Prague, Minn. She was baptized on Oct. 2, 1949, and confirmed on April 7, 1963, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine, Minn. She grew up in Belle Plaine, graduating from Belle Plaine High School in May 1967. Following her graduation, Sandy lived and taught in Mexico from 1971 to 1975. She was a pre-school director in Canby and Minneota, Minn., from 1975 to 1977, and then moved to Willmar, where she served as a pre-school coordinator with an education cooperative.

On July 21, 1978, Sandy married Eugene R. Seydel in Belle Plaine. This union was blessed with two children. The family lived in Willmar, where Sandy taught kindergarten until June 2006, when she retired after 28 years of teaching.

At the time of her death, Sandy was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, where she was a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher for a number of years. She had also served as an organizer for the church Advent Festival. Sandy was a member of the Minnesota Kindergarten Association and participated in Relay for Life.

Her family recalls her hobbies of reading, knitting, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Sandy also enjoyed traveling with her husband, taking a trip to Alaska and two cruises in the Caribbean, where she had an opportunity to swim with the stingrays. She always enjoyed organizing a family vacation during the summer, visiting places such as Washington, D.C., and the Grand Canyon. The holidays were always spent with family, and every 4th of July was an annual reunion with the Seydel family.
