On July 21, 1978, Sandy married Eugene R. Seydel in Belle Plaine. This union was blessed with two children. The family lived in Willmar, where Sandy taught kindergarten until June 2006, when she retired after 28 years of teaching.
At the time of her death, Sandy was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, where she was a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher for a number of years. She had also served as an organizer for the church Advent Festival. Sandy was a member of the Minnesota Kindergarten Association and participated in Relay for Life.
Her family recalls her hobbies of reading, knitting, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She always enjoyed organizing a family vacation during the summer, visiting places such as Washington, D.C., and the Grand Canyon. The holidays were always spent with family, and every 4th of July was an annual reunion with the Seydel family.
