Sauer has strong meet for Frazee gymnastics team
The Frazee gymnastics team notched a 113.05 score in the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle meet Thursday, Feb. 5.
The Hornets' key event once again was vault, where they claimed five of the top six places, led by Alane Sauer's personal-best score of 8.9 for first place.
"It was Alane's first time vaulting in two weeks because of her pulled groin/quadriceps," said Frazee head coach Amie Erickson. "(Sauer had a) handspring full and really popped off the table."
Emma Buhr completed a half on handspring half off for an 8.4, tying for third with Jessica Irish.
Quincy Mickelson and Tiffany Haugen capped Frazee's top five slots, by tying with an 8.35.
On floor, Haugen had a back tuck half, along with a double pirouette to finish with 7.3 for sixth place.
Sauer stuck her beam routine to score a 7.6, which was good for second.
"She was last and it was so exciting after all the falls we had on beam," Erickson said. "She had really nice pike jumps."
Sauer finished third all-around with a 30.34, while Mickelson was fifth at 27.6 and Irish sixth with a 26.75. Haugen finished seventh all-around with a 26 and Emma Buhr was eighth with a 20.20.
