Save power, get cash rebate
The city of Detroit Lakes recently presented Caribou Coffee a $1,440 check.
Detroit Lakes Public Utilities participates in a program known as Bright Energy Solutions, which encourages energy efficient choices for utility customers by offering cash incentives for equipment that uses less electricity.
The ultimate goal of the program is to help commercial and residential customers save money on their electrical usage and help control the use of a valuable resource.
Detroit Lakes Public Utilities works with new building owners and commercial customers to provide new construction or new equipment ideas that help reduce the consumption of electricity.
This is a no-cost service for business owners to help them understand their electrical rates and ways to reduce their usage.
By participating in this review process with the Utility, Caribou Coffee was able to participate in both the Commercial Refrigeration and Lighting New Construction programs.
By using Energy Star qualified refrigeration and LED lights, Caribou will save 16,195 kilowatt hours a year. That is nearly $1,300 a year in savings, and the equivalent of powering two homes for nearly a year!
To apply for the cash incentives, customers must complete an application form and provide the required documentation to Detroit Lakes Public Utilities.
The utility currently offers cash rebates to qualified customers for these commercial and industrial programs:
- Heating and cooling.
- Food service.
- Lighting – retrofit and new construction.
- umps/Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Specialty measures.
- Commercial refrigeration.
The utility also offers rebates for these residential programs:
- Energy Star products.
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
Bright Energy Solutions is offered to customers of participating municipal utilities who are members of Missouri River Energy Services.
