Schmit awarded Families Forever scholarship
Libby Schmit is the latest winner of a Families Forever scholarship.
Libby is from Detroit Lakes and is the daughter of Steven and Karen Schmit. She will be attending University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where she will be playing soccer and double majoring in Spanish and Social work.
She recently graduated from Detroit Lakes High School.
Libby won the scholarship at the Miss Northwest Scholarship pageant in Detroit Lakes. Miss Northwest is affiliated with the Miss America system and is also part of the Northwest Water Carnival events.
Families Forever Scholarship group raises money for scholarship through the Garden Quilt Show coming up Aug. 17 in Lakes Park. This event goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the home of Ed and Peggy Stellmach. Rain location is the American Legion in Lake Park.
All the tea and treats you can eat, quilts and flowers galore. Cost is $7 to attend. No charge to enter a quilt and try for a chance to win gift certificates from Red Pine Quilt Shop in Detroit Lakes and the Bay Window Quilt Shop in Perham.
Other prizes are from the Lady Bug in Moorhead, Ed and Peggy Stellmach, Thompson Greenery in Barnesville and other local merchants and friends of the Quilt Show.
Funds are also raised from the Turkey Day 5K, which happens in Lake Park on Thanksgiving Day giving you a chance to help and to get ready for that big holiday meal.
