SCSU's Raboin named WCHA's Defensive Player of the Week
Garrett Raboin, a junior defenseman and team captain at #19 St. Cloud State University, has been named the Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Feb. 17-23 as a result of his outstanding efforts in a two-game conference sweep over visiting Michigan Tech last weekend at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
A 5-11, 175-pound junior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., Raboin helped lead the Huskies to a 3-2, 4-2 home-ice sweep over MTU. Last Friday (Feb. 13) night, he assisted on teammate Ryan Lasch's game-winning goal in the third period and then last Saturday (Feb. 14) evening, Raboin scored the game-winning goal and set up another for a three-point series. In addition, he fired eight shots on goal and anchored an SCSU defense that allowed just two even-strength goals and a total of 45 shots on goal on the weekend.
On the season, Raboin ranks second among WCHA defensemen in scoring overall with 31 points in 32 games played, with nine goals and 22 assists. This marks the first time in 2008-09 that Raboin has earned WCHA weekly honors.
The Huskies (17-13-2, 12-11-1 WCHA) will enjoy this weekend off before heading to the University of Denver on Feb. 27-28 for a pair of WCHA games. SCSU will be back home on March 6, for a 7:07 p.m. game against downstate rival Minnesota State University.
