Senior Fest to be held June 24 at Pavilion
When the Becker County Senior Network hosted Senior Fest in 2004, about 400 seniors turned out for a day of celebrating ... well, seniors.
This year, organizers are hoping for 400-500 seniors to come enjoy a day of pontoon rides, music and more.
"This is even bigger and better (than in 2004)," organizer Joy Crouch said.
"We haven't celebrated the seniors for four years, so we want to give back," organizer Judy Peterson agreed.
This year Senior Fest is set for Tuesday, June 24, in the Detroit Lakes Pavilion. For a mere $2, seniors can enjoy lunch, guest speaker and musician Eric Bergeson, musician Lloyd Benson, Rep. Paul Marquart announcing the Outstanding Senior nominations, pontoon rides around Detroit Lake, ice cream social and time to socialize. The day of activities runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will also be door prizes and a free reusable bag -- courtesy of Central Market and Nash Finch -- to the first 200 people through the door. There will be 25 booths set up with any and all services for seniors.
"It's a unique and rare opportunity. Lots of people you know will be there," Crouch said.
The Senior Fest celebration is county wide and open to any senior.
"Just like the state fair is the great state get together, this is the great Becker County get together," she added.
Those interested must pre-register between June 16-19, when volunteers will be available to take calls, at 847-1385 or 1-888-458-1385. Free transportation is available through Becker County Transit. RSVP for transportation by June 20 at 847-1674 or 1-888-847-1674.
