A gospel concert for Haiti Mercy Mission featuring Dick McLaughlin, Rich Haldorson, Janice Ramsey, Joyce Anderson, Kim Schnitzer and Vicki Marthaler is at 4 p.m. today (Sunday) in the Assembly of God Church, Detroit Lakes. A love offering will be taken for orphans at Pignon, Haiti. Coffee and bars will be served after concert.

An Oktoberfest German Dinner will be held at the Elk's Club, 647 Jefferson Street North in Wadena from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  today. The dinner is sponsored by the Wadena County Historical Society and the Wadena Deer Creek German Club, to celebrate the German culture in the area and to welcome German students from Wadena-Deer Creek's partner school in Menden, Germany who are in Minnesota for a two-week educational exchange. At 1 p.m. the local German Club will give a dramatic presentation called "Sophie's Journey," the story of a young girl emigrating to America in 1914. There will be a free will offering taken.

Swedish/American pianist and comedian Magnus Martensson performs Scandinavian piano music at 7 p.m. today in the First Lutheran Church, 619 Broadway, Fargo. The public is invited. Admission is a free-will offering at the door. Martensson is currently the conductor of The Scandinavian Chamber Orchestra of New York.

A free screening of the movie "Iron Jawed Angels" will be held at The Avenue in downtown Detroit Lakes, starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. There will be a 6 p.m. social. Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Master Mind Study Group of Detroit Lakes, this educational event will include a discussion following the movie. An exhibit of "Works in Various Media" by Detroit Lakes artist Linda Doebbert will be on display in the main meeting room through Sept. 30 at the Detroit Lakes Public Library, and examples of handmade book styles by Linda Doebbert will also be on exhibit in the library's upstairs reading room. The Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center is now taking registrations for the 2008-09 DLCCC After School Program. The program allows students in grades K-6 to get a balance of the arts and physical activity. Activities will include arts-related workshops such as acting, dance, glass making, clowning and theatre tech, as well as gym and swim time and sports clinics. The program is available throughout the school year, Monday through Friday, 3:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per day, per child with a two day per week commitment. Local artist Robert J Cummings has original paintings on display for the month of September at Flowers by Val, downtown Detroit Lakes. A native of Frazee, Bob specializes in giving great attention to detail while creating his beautiful, scenic oil paintings.

Join Elmo and friends as they take the stage for a musical adventure in the Sesame Street Live production, "Elmo Makes Music," which comes to the Fargodome, 1800 University Drive, Fargo, on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8. A new exhibit about Butler Township, created specifically for Butler's recent 125th anniversary celebration, is now on display at the History Museum of East Otter Tail County in Perham.
