Several cities, boards will see races this fall on the November ballot

Not many new faces will be on ballots around the area this fall though a couple city councils and school board will have contested races.

Some will even be decided on write-ins since less people filed than seats open.

Those filing to run for public offices mainly included incumbents already serving on school board and city councils.

The final candidates are:

DL City Council, mayor

There will only be one contested race on he Detroit Lakes City Council this fall.

Those currently in the positions include Mayor Matt Brenk, first ward alderman Ron Zeman, second ward alderman Jamie Marks Erickson, third ward alderman Marty Waller and alderman at large Bruce Imholte.

Those on the November ballot will be incumbents Waller, Zeman, Brenk, Imholte and Marks Erickson. Rick G. Johnson, of 1127 Wilson Ave., also filed for alderman at large.

Vergas City Council, mayor

The Vergas City Council will have a write-in candidate on the board come next year.

Those currently in the positions include Dean Haarstick as mayor, and Paul Pinke and Kevin Zitzow as council members.

Those on the November ballot will be Haarstick and Zitzow. There will be one council seat open.

Frazee City Council

There will be a race this fall for the two seats on the Frazee City Council.

Those currently in the positions include Donna Ouart and Dave Jopp.

Those on the November ballot will be Ouart and Jopp, and newcomer to the ballot John Dermody, who has served on the council in the past.

Detroit Lakes School Board

There are three open seats and four have filed for the Detroit Lakes School Board.

Those currently in the positions include Tom Seaworth, Tom Klyve and Ladd Lyngaas.

Those on the November ballot will be incumbents Lyngaas and Seaworth and newcomers Jackie Buboltz and Daniel S. El-Dweek.

Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School Board

Three will be a race between four people for three seats on the Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School Board this fall.

Those currently in the positions include Tom Teiken, Joe McArthur and Allen Haugo.

Those on the November ballot will be incumbents McArthur and Haugo, and newcomers John Zima and Kami Lhotka.

Frazee-Vergas School Board

Six people will be vying for three seats on the Frazee-Vergas School Board.

Those currently in the positions include Dana Laine, Steve Jepson and Keith Janu.

Those on the November ballot will be Jepson, Laine, Amie Erickson, Tammie Nunn, Mary Lepisto and Don Trieglaff.

Audubon City Council, mayor

Audubon will see a race for both mayor and two city council seats this fall.

Those currently in the positions include Jeff Quam, mayor, and Jason Leucuta, council member. Robert Goodrich held the other open position, but he resigned his seat on the council last month.

Those on the November ballot will be Quam and Brad Grant for mayor, and Leucuta, Tony Gordon and Joshua Heibel for the two council seats.

Lake Park City Council, mayor

There will be new faces on the November ballot in Lake Park.

Those currently in the positions include Keith Zachariason as mayor, and Jason Crabtree and Jason Abbott on the council.

Those on the November ballot will be Aaron Wittnebel for mayor and Jon Anderson for city council. No one filed for a second seat on the council.

Lake Park-Audubon School Board

One new face will be on the ballot for the November election for the Lake Park-Audubon School Board.

Those currently in the three positions include Bryan Anderson, Dale Binde and Darrel Pederson.

Those on the November ballot will be Anderson and Pederson and newcomer Cara Bjerken.

Ogema City Council, mayor

There will be a new mayor in Ogema next year.

Those currently in the positions include Eugene Clark Jr., mayor, Mary Vasecka, clerk, and LaVerne Hoban and Phil Dassinger, city council.

Those on the November ballot for mayor will be Paul Williams, Shelly Scheler and Don Morrison. For city council, running are Hoban (4-year term) and Tim Savior (2-year term). Up for clerk is Phil Dassinger.

Callaway City Council, mayor

Only incumbents had filed for re-election in Callaway.

Those currently in the positions include Gretchen Stalboerger, mayor, and Dale Boyer and Emily Annette, council members.

Those on the November ballot will be Stalboerger, Annette and Boyer.

Waubun City Council, mayor

Waubun City Hall was unable to be reached, so there is no update on who has filed for the mayor and two council positions up for election.

Those currently in the positions include Andrew Berg, mayor, and Dean Bishop and Betsy McDougall, council members.
