Several Minnesota acts to perform at 10K Lakes Festival
Dave Matthews Band is the big headliner at this year's 10,000 Lakes Festival, but there's a lot of good music to check out.
Campgrounds open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, but the Main Stage music doesn't start until 6 p.m., with English indie rockers Gomez. Of course, the highlight is the first of two headlining nights by Widespread Panic at 8.
With two unwritten themes, Thursday's lineup should especially appeal to Minneapolis music fans and roots rockers. Minneapolis' Gypsy Lumberjacks open the day at noon at the Vitaminwater Sync Saloon, and the Honeydogs open the Main Stage at 6, followed by fellow Minneapolitan Mason Jennings at 7:30. Headliners Wilco take the stage at 9:30, but Twin Cities rapper Atmosphere and Garrison Keillor's favorite "Guit-Steel" player Junior Brown roll into the night starting at 11:30 on side stages.
If anyone thinks 10KLF has gotten away from its jammin' roots, this is the day for you. From the Mountain Standard Time noon set through a picking show by Lakes-area guitarist Tim Sparks (1:45) sets by Cloud Cult (2), Steve Kimrock Crazy Engine (4), Trampled by Turtles (6), the second Widespread Panic show (8) and the standard Wookiefoot fanfare (11), the beat won't stop until Backyard Tire Fire's 1:30 a.m. set comes to a close.
Of course Dave Mathews Band's headlining main-stage set is the big attraction, but there is good music throughout the day. Check out Honeyhoney (1:45), Todd Snider (2), Kathleen Edwards or Ozomatli (both at 4) and Umphrey's McGee (6). If you want to skip out on the post-DMB fireworks, catch Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at 11:30. And if you can stand up after that, catch the final act, Pert Near Sandstone at 1:30 a.m.
