Sex offender sentenced for failing to register
Robert Dean Bakken, 24, of 2967 130th Ave., Waubun was sentenced in Becker County Court July 23 for felony escape from custody and felony violation of Minnesota's predatory offender law. An identical charge was dismissed in a plea agreement July 9, according to court records.
On May 7, 2007, he admitted at a court hearing that he had violated the terms of his probation (he was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in 1998) and was sentenced to 120 days in jail, with work release privileges granted.
Three days later he walked away from jail while out on work release and has not registered his address with authorities since.
On July 23 District Judge Peter Irvine sentenced him to 15 months in prison, execution stayed five years. He was placed on supervised probation for five years. He was given credit for 270 days served in jail and fined $500 plus fees.
