Shakespeare in the Park auditions set
Auditions for the 2010 Shakespeare in the Park production of The Merry Wives of Windsor will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 14-15 at the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes. There are roles for 11 men and eight women, ages 15 and up.
Anyone interested in the show is encouraged to come and try out, even if you've never acted before! With the success of the 2009 show, "Taming of the Shrew," director Nikki Caulfield hopes to grow the summer event's popularity.
"This is a great show with a lot of fun roles- every character in the show has a quirk of some type," she said. "There also are not a lot of the big speeches that we associate with Shakespeare -- most of the roles have shorter lines, making it easier to memorize."
"The Merry Wives of Windsor" is about two wily women who make a fool of Sir John Falstaff over and over again as he tries unsuccessfully to seduce them. It's a wild ride through dirty laundry, mistaken identities, a pair of antlers and a lot of crazy characters.
The show will be presented in the Detroit Lakes City Park on June 25-27 as well as July 1-3. It is produced through Summit Productions and the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center.
