Former Detroit Lakes resident Sharon Lea Kvilvang, 77, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Friday, April 4, 2014, in her home with family at her side.
Sharon, the daughter of Eivind and Myrtle (Kohler) Ode, was born May 15, 1936, in Audubon. In 1948 she moved to Lake Park, where she graduated from Lake Park High School in 1953. She worked at the Detroit State Bank for a period of time.
Sharon was united in marriage to Donald Kvilvang on September 25, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Audubon, where she and her family were members. They lived in Detroit Lakes, where their four children were born.
In 1968 she moved with her family to Hibbing, where she again worked in the banking industry. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing, and later joining Grace Lutheran Church in Chisholm, again as an active member enjoying ladies' bible studies and couples home bible studies. She served on the Stewardship Committee and was president of the Ladies Guild.
Her family was her main joy, and she enjoyed entertaining over the years, cooking, baking, friends, neighbors, reading, watching the Twins baseball games, her grandson's hockey games, and her grandchildren's school and church programs, and before her stroke her favorite pastime was playing the piano.
Surviving Sharon are her husband Donald; her children, Nancy (Robert) Weatherup of Minneapolis, Sheila Kvilvang of St. Paul, Susan (Jason) Taylor of Chisholm and Joel (Cindy) Kvilvang of Grand Rapids; her siblings, LaVonne (Donald) Askelson of Lake Park and Eldred "Buddy" (Becky) Ode of Lake Park; grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) McDonald, Janna Koestler, Joshua Koestler, Lauren Taylor, Chad Taylor, DeAnna Kvilvang, Katie Jane Kvilvang, and Jordan Kvilvang; and great grandchildren, Addison McDonald, and Aiden McDonald.
Sharon's parents preceded her in death.
Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel, continuing for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service on Monday, April 7 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing. The Reverend Steve Breitbarth officiated. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
