Sheri L. Felt, 53, of De-troit Lakes, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 30 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1 at First Baptist Church in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in the Alida Cemetery in rural Shevlin, Minn.

Sheri Lynn Felt was born to Charles and Lillian (Evermoen) Newland on March 16, 1957 in Bagley, Minn. She was raised and educated in Minerva Township, rural Shevlin, and graduated Bagley High School in 1975.

Sheri was united in marriage to Rod Felt on August 28, 1976 in Bagley. They moved to Fargo, where she worked at Dakota Hospital until she started her family. In 1983 they moved to Detroit Lakes, where she operated a day care business until being diagnosed with cancer in 1990. She and Rod later divorced.

With her cancer in remission, Sheri worked as an aide for the Detroit Lakes Public Schools and in the St. Mary's Hospital Emergency Room while earning her LPN degree at Minnesota State Cokmmunity & Technical College in Detroit Lakes in 2006.

Sheri enjoyed being a "Nana," spending time with her family, helping others, gardening, and the residents that she cared for.

Surviving Sheri are a son, Zachary (Susie) Felt of Detroit Lakes; a daughter, Rachael Felt (Aaron Gray) of Detroit Lakes; a grandson, Caleb; her mother, Lillian Newland of Shevlin; a sister, Beverly Newland (Doug Fredrickson) of Shevlin; five brothers, Duane of El Paso, Texas, Dean of Shevlin, Donnie (Debbie) of Shevlin, Dale (Denise) of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Dwight (Mickey) of Shevlin; and Sheri's special friend, Doug Spies of Anthon, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her dad and her grandparents.
