Shirley L. Hoyhtya, 61, of rural Menahga, died from cancer on Friday, July 4, 2008, at Innovis Health in Fargo.
Shirley Lorraine Stine was born to Orville and Ida Stine on Nov. 23, 1946 in Ottertail County, where she grew up and graduated from Sebeka High School. Shirley worked at Security State Bank in Sebeka. In May 1966, she married Wilbert A. Hoyhtya. They resided in Great Falls, Mont., and Minot, N.D., upon Will's retirement from military service they bought the family homestead in rural Menahga. Their union was blessed with three children: Jeff, Charlyn (known as Lyn) and Kevin. Shirley was employed at the Wolf Lake Liquor Store for 18 years.
Shirley was always quick to smile, patient, and always had time to listen and visit. She loved to garden and spend time with family, friends and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed tending to her flowerbeds and watching them blossom and grow.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her husband, Will; children, Jeff Hoyhtya of Tucson, Ariz., Lyn (Lee) Moorhouse of Park Rapids, and Kevin (Erica) Hoyhtya of Mapleton, N.D.; two grandchildren; brothers, Bob Stine of Wadena, Glenn (Alice) Stine of Menahga and Duane (Connie) Stine of Colby, Wis.; and sister, Karilyn (Kelly) Hendrickson of Menahga; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded Shirley in death.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, continuing for one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home on Wednesday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9 at the Wevley Funeral Chapel in Sebeka, with Curt Fowler officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of Shirley's children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Active casket bearers will be Robert Stine, Glenn Stine, Duane Stine, Don Toppari, Lee Luedke and Allen Hoyhtya.
Interment will be at Wolf Lake Cemetery in Wolf Lake. Arrangements were entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka.
