Shirley M. Steinhaus, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at her residence.
Shirley Mae Steinhaus was born to Thurman and Huldah (Hanson) Wetteland on March 20, 1928 in Detroit Lakes.
She grew up and received her education in Audubon, graduating from Audubon High School in 1946.
On September 10, 1949 she was united in marriage to Lorren Steinhaus in Audubon.
They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where they raised their four children.
Shirley was a gentle, patient woman. Being with family was very important to her.
She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting and entertaining on holidays, with Christmas time being her favorite. Other things that she enjoyed were dancing with Lorren and living at the lake.
Shirley was active at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, and was also active in her children's many activities, including Cub Scouts and 4-H.
Surviving Shirley are two sons, Mark (Ron Greenstone) Steinhaus of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and John (Denise) Steinhaus of Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Susan (Linden) Boyd of Moorhead and Sara (George) Patelidas of St. Simons Island, Ga.; three grandchildren, Preston Boyd of New York, N.Y., Haley Boyd of New York, N.Y., and George (Nikos) Patelidas III of St. Simons Island, Ga.; one brother, Thurman (Vaida) Wetteland of Detroit Lakes; one brother-in-law, Herman Meier of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Lorren (Jan. 8, 1998); her parents; and two sisters, Elizabeth Utke and Jean Meier.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3 in the West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services. Interment will be in First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Audubon.
