Authorities received a call at 9:13 p.m. from a 21-year-old female who reported gunshots at location east of New York Mills on County Highway 56. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies and EMS found two people with gunshot wounds.

One 20-year-old male was dead on scene. Another 23-year-male was transported first to Tri-County Health Care in Wadena, then airlifted to a hospital in St. Cloud where he is in critical condition and on life support.

A previous release from the Sheriff's Office said the 23-year-old was deceased, but an updated release sent out late Thursday morning said he was actually still alive and in critical condition.

"Interviews of witnesses at the scene indicate the 23 year old male shot the 20 year old male, then shot himself," the release said.

Names of the two men were witheld pending notification of families and the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
