The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley (RMHC-RRV), located in Fargo, recently received a donation of 60 hand-painted and handmade quilts, designed by Mary Dahlen, an integral employee at Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center for the past 13 years.

The quilts were recently donated to the seriously ill or injured children being treated at RMHC-RRV, and will be theirs to keep forever once they are well enough to return home.

"Shooting Star is a socially conscious company committed to the people and the neighborhoods in which we live and work, providing a comprehensive giving program and always striving to support as many organizations as possible that help to enhance the communities and people we serve," said William "Bill" Marsh, marketing director at Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center.

Mary Dahlen has been hand-painting quilts for as long as she can remember. Dahlen has a large family and made quilts for each of her kids when they were little and found a love for this art form. She also hand-paints quilts as a form of relaxation and fun.

Dahlen has a huge heart and personally made the trip to Fargo to donate the 60 quilts to the children at the RMHC-RRV. Each of the quilts were hand-painted with Disney princesses, cartoon characters, football teams, fun animals, unique landscapes and more.

"Knowing that we do not have the means to support every worthwhile cause monetarily, we make it a priority to give our time, energy and resources whenever possible through volunteer activities, such as donating these handmade quilts to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley," Marsh said. "Actions such as this ultimately demonstrate our core values and the foundation of our company and our people."
