Shorty camp Aug. 5-7
The eighth annual VIPS Memorial Shorty Wrestling Camp is set for Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 5-7 at Frazee High School.
Part of the proceeds from this camp will be donated to the Josh and Tanner Schermerhorn Scholarship Fund and also to the Frazee High School wrestling program.
Group A, for experienced wrestlers, will meet from 6-9 p.m. Group B, for beginners ages 5-9, will meet from 6-7 p.m. Check-in for both groups is at 5:30 p.m.
The cost for experienced wrestlers in Group A will be $30, which includes a T-shirt and certificate.
Cost for beginners will be $10, including a T-shirt and certificate. There is a family discount of $5 for each additional sibling in Group B.
Clinicians for the camp will be:
n John Barlund, two-time college All-American and head coach of the 2006 and 2007 state runner-up Frazee Hornets;
n Matt Nagel, first five-time state champion, University of Minnesota wrestler, NCAA National qualifier and All-American;
n Travis Nagel, MSUM two-time college All-American and 2001 NCAA outstanding wrestler and high school All-American, head coach at Lake Park;
n Clay Nagel, head coach at Concordia College, Moorhead, 369-81 college and high school record, coached 11-time state team place winners, three team titles, 122 state entrants, 64 state place winners, 29 state finalists, 16 state champions, 1999 Coach of the Year;
n Dennis Schermerhorn, assistant coach, Frazee High School;
n John Schermerhorn, two-time Minnesota state champion and high school All-American;
n Marty Aho, assistant coach Frazee High School;
n Adam Aho, North Dakota State University wrestler, state champion and high school All-American;
n Robb Moser, head coach, Perham, voted State Class AA coach of the year in 2007; his teams have qualified for the state AA wrestling tournament three consecutive years: 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, with the 2007 and 2008 Yellowjackets winning state runner-up.
