'Simply Sinatra' is April 25 at Holmes

Children ages 4-10 and their families are invited to the "Geronimo Stilton-Shipwreck on the Pirate Islands" event this Monday, April 13 at the Detroit Lakes Library from 4 to 5:30 p.m. There will be crafts, activities, snacks and a story all inspired by the Geronimo Stilton book.

Art students from Minnesota State Community and Technical College will be hosting an Empty Bowls Lunch on Thursday, April 16. This event is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Legacy Hall on M-State's Fergus Falls campus. Guests will be served soup in a handmade ceramic bowl of their choice in exchange for a minimum donation of $12. The proceeds from this event will be donated to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.

Singer-songwriter and pianist Keri Noble is known for her expressive songwriting and creative musical ability. Her sound is a beautiful mix of R&B and pop that has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan and Paula Cole. Her music rocks, sways and takes you on a ride. She will perform selections from both her current self-titled CD and her previous release, "Fearless," at an 8 p.m. show on Friday, April 17 show in the Historic Holmes Theatre, Detroit Lakes. One of country music's hottest young stars, Dierks Bentley comes to Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino on Friday, April 24 for a sold-out concert at 8 p.m. Rising country singer-songwriter-musician Judd Hughes will open the show. Other upcoming performances at the Shooting Star include Howie Mandel on May 8 and Josh Gracin on May 22.

Nationally prominent vocalist Steve Lippia and his big band will transport you back to the days of the "Rat Pack" as they perform Frank Sinatra's pop standards. Lippia's "Simply Sinatra," a glamorous evening of jazz, swing, and Sinatra-style big band sound, will make its Detroit Lakes debut at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25 in the Historic Holmes Theatre. There will be a pre-party and fund-raiser for the theater in the Holmes Ballroom, starting with a silent auction and social at 5:30 p.m. and followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets for the show only are $25 for adults and $12.50 for students; tickets for both the dinner and show are $50 each. In the 1980s, Kevin Bacon stepped onto the big screen in a pair of worn out jeans and a t-shirt and danced his way into the hearts of women and teenage girls in a movie called "Footloose." Donna Chalimonczyk, a watermedia artist from Moorhead, will be exhibiting her work at the Detroit Lakes Library during the months of April and May. Her paintings include a wide variety of subjects including landscapes, still life, people and abstracts. Donna began painting in 1990 when she joined the Cormorant Area Art Club and was living near Lake Park. She continues her membership in the CAAC, where she attends workshops and displays her work during their July art show. She is also a member of the Red River Watercolor Society, F-M Visual Artists and the Hjemkomst Center Artists' Studio in Moorhead.
