Singer-songwriter to make WE Fest debut
Though she already has four albums and five hit singles under her belt, this Wednesday will mark the official WE Fest debut of singer-songwriter Katie Armiger.
“We’ve toured quite a bit in the Minnesota-Wisconsin area this past year,” Armiger said Wednesday in a telephone interview. “But to finally be able to make it out there to WE Fest will be really fun.”
She will be performing not just once, but twice at the Soo Pass — first as part of the WE Fest Kickoff Party on Wednesday, July 31, along with local favorites Silverado and fellow up-and-comer Walker Hayes, and then again on Thursday, Aug. 1, as part of a Main Stage lineup that includes Walker Hayes, Rodney Atkins, Big & Rich (with Cowboy Troy) and headliner Eric Church.
“It feels great,” said Armiger, referring to the opportunity to play on the same stage as some of country music’s biggest stars.
She said her set would include a mix of new and familiar tunes for her fans.
“We’ll definitely do some of the new music,” she said, referring to her latest album, “Fall Into Me,” which was released in January. “But we’ll also do some songs from previous albums. WE Fest is all about fun, so it will probably be a more upbeat, rockin’ set.”
The native of Sugarland, Texas, has been writing songs since her early teens, and on her latest album, “I co-wrote all the songs,” Armiger said. “I’ve listened to country music my entire life, and there wasn’t any other genre of music I wanted to sing. It was always my passion.”
Armiger will perform on the Barn Stage at 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, and again on the Main Stage at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1.
