Slick driving conditions for tonight, tomorrow
Freezing rain could be an unwelcome Christmas gift tonight for our region.
The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a warning for the possibility of freezing drizzle this evening around Hubbard and surrounding counties, turning to snow after midnight.
"We're ahead of a cold front coming down from Canada," said NWS meteorologist Mike Lukes. "Right now we've got fairly warm winds coming in from the southeast. There's a 30 percent chance of freezing drizzle tonight. Add to that the warm-up today that's making roads very slick" and it spells difficult travel conditions.
Lows tonight should be 15 to 20 above, Lukes said. By Saturday the winds should shift out of the northwest, bringing colder temperatures. Two small front will bring precipitation tonight and tomorrow.
Friday there's a 50 percent chance of light snow with freezing drizzle. By Friday night there could be some blowing snow.
There were several minor traffic accidents in and around Park Rapids Christmas Eve and Christmas day, with several reports of cars in ditches.
