Smith siblings take Junior PGA titles
Karter Smith and Kate Smith of Detroit Lakes, MN won the 2013 Minnesota Section Junior PGA Players’ Tour Series “A” points race. In the boys division, Karter earned 547.50 points.
Finishing second was Aaron Keintz of Bagley, MN with a point total of 421.25 points.
Kate won the girls division with a point total of 357.50. Finishing second was Jenny Muesing of Baxter, MN with 240.00 points.
Karter Smith also was crowned the boys’ champion after he defeated Ted Urch of Owatonna, 1-up in the Boys Championship Match at Dacotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton.
The field held 64 golfers playing in match play.
It was a full sweep again for the Smith’s, as Kate defeated Sophie Hill of Medford, 3 and 2 in the Girls Championship Match, also held in Morton.
There were 14 golfers in the field, playing match play for the girls.
Karter Smith will be playing for the Drake University men’s golf team, while Kate is entering her sophomore year at Detroit Lakes High School.
