Soccer: DL JV girls’ soccer has good season

The Detroit Lakes junior varsity girls’ soccer team finished the season with a 6-7-2 record.

After losing the first three games of the season, DL came away with its first win with a 7-1 victory against Hillcrest.

Goals came from Lindsey Dorff (2) assisted by Elizabeth Lembke, Mikayla Avila assisted by Dorff, Jamie Bollig assisted by Dorff, Lily Burnside assisted by Dorff, and Hailiegh Wenger (2), both unassisted.

After Hillcrest, the Lakers traveled to Fergus Falls, walking away with a 1-1 tie.

DL’s loan goal was scored by Kylee Edwards and assisted by Dorff.

Shortly after, the Lakers traveled to Becker, taking home the win with a score of 3-2. Goals were scored by Avila (2), the first assisted by Dorff, with the other going unassisted.

Edwards also had an unassisted tally.

After losing to EGF, the Lakers hosted Fergus Falls and tied again, this time 0-0.

DL traveled to Little Falls next, scoring two in the first half en route to a 2-1 victory.

The first goal was scored by Lily Olson and assisted by Avila. The second goal was from Burnside assisted by Ava Steinmetz.

The Lakers next hosted Walker, and beat them 3-0. Goals came from Payton Carlblom, assisted by Ava Steinmetz whom was assisted by Danaca Yamane; and two goals from Avila, one unassisted, the other assisted by Lily Burnside.

“Hillcrest came to play, showing a lot of improvement,” Branden said. “Detroit Lakes was able to pick up and break down the Hillcrest defense, scoring four in the second half.”

Two goals were scored by Darci Molander, both assisted by Carlblom.

Another goal from Megan Noel was assisted by Molander, whom was assisted by Bollig.

The final goal was from Yamane’s free kick.
