Laker U-12 softball starts off well
The Detroit Lakes “Red” U-12 softball team started its traveling season Thursday by downing Fergus Falls 16-2 in game one.
Madi Kirchner picked up the win by striking out six. Rachel Perkins and Laurynn Manning collected two hits apiece.
Mattea Borah had a three-run home run.
In game two, Detroit Lakes won 15-0 in three innings.
Madi Anderson struck out 8-9 batters and pitched a no- hitter.
Perkins hit a two-run homer. Sydney Schuamann had two hits in the win.
The DL “White” team had its games in Moorhead postponed because of weather.
Both teams practice on Mondays and play two-one hour games on Thursdays.
DL’s next games will be at Snappy Park Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m.
The teams are coached by Phil Kirchner, Kacey Franklin, Bri Larsen and Michelle Remer.
DLHS speed and strength starts June 3
The Laker speed and strength sessions will run from June 3-July 19.
Times for DLHS girls are Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-9 a.m. or 9-10 a.m.
For DLHS boys, times are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11 a.m.
For middle school boys and girls, times are Tuesday and Thursday from 8-8:45 a.m. or from 8:45-9:30 a.m.
Cost is $30 per high school student and $25 per middle school student.
Registration can be paid at the first session.

Laker Open is June 7
The 19th Annual Laker Open to benefit the Detroit Lakes boys’ and girls’ golf teams is this Friday, June 7 at the Lakeview Golf Course.
The four-person scramble costs $40 for a team of three, with the fourth being one of the Laker golf players.
Registration is from 4:45-5:15 p.m, with a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m.

Old-Old Timers Softball League info
A softball league for men 55 years old and over will be formed this summer, starting Thursday, June 6.
The first games will be played Thursday at Snappy Park, starting at 7 p.m.

Hole in One Club
Keith Leikas of Fargo made a hole in one at the Lakeview Golf Course on hole 16, a 134-yard shot using an eight iron, on May 27.
Witnessing the shot was Paul Just.
Lakeview Women’s Golf League results
The Lakeview Women’s Golf League played May 14, with the game being throw out the worst hole.
Sue DuBois shot a one over par to win, while Steph Malinger was second and Jackie Hoban was third.
Longest drive went to Marlene Hanson and longest putt to Jackie Schiller.
On May 28, lowest putts was the game, and first place went to Carol Schornack, Mary Seaworth and Sharon O’Brien.
Second place went to Hanson, Hoban, Ginny Imholte and Joanne Bye.
