St. Mary's lands $100,000 construction grant
DETROIT LAKES -- St. Mary's has received a $100,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation towards the current Nursing Center renovation and expansion construction project.
The $100,000 grant provided the kick-off funding needed to jump-start St. Mary's Regional Health Center's Foundation $1 million dollar philanthropy goal for the project.
From 47 double rooms and just seven private rooms, the "new" St. Mary's Nursing Center will have 66 private/single rooms, 34 with private baths, plus 15 shared suites. Rooms will be larger, offering greater privacy, autonomy and the ability to personalize one's room with personal items and favorite furniture to make it feel like home.
Food and beverages will be available virtually any time. Residents may arise for the day, or retire at night, as their needs and wishes dictate. To the greatest extent possible, resident's preferred routines will be honored as if they were in their own homes.
St. Mary's new Nursing Center will consist of several small "neighborhoods," each with approximately 25 residents. There will be opportunities within each neighborhood to assist with cooking, cleaning and other tasks, contributing to the resident's sense of purpose. Within the neighborhoods, meals will be served in a family dining setting.
Additional areas incorporated in this new construction include sitting areas, private gathering rooms, a large chapel, library, computer room, expanded beauty shop, as well as a gift and soda shop. St. Mary's aim is to make the Nursing Center a place of fulfillment, warmth and normalcy, in other words, to create "home."
Christy Brinkman, administrator of St. Mary's Nursing Center comments, "We are so grateful to the Otto Bremer Foundation for this lead gift, which will help fulfill our vision of serving our community's health with spirit and humanity."
Completion of the first phase of construction is scheduled for a move-in date of July, with final phase completion in June 2009.
