Stanley "Stan" B. Kittelson, 89, of Elk River, Minn., died on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River.
Stanley was born the son of Arthur and Alice (Bergstrom) Kittelson on October 9, 1922 in Nevis. He was raised in Nevis, where he attended public schools and graduated in 1940. He entered in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943; he served in the Pacific Theatre, including Guadalcanal, Okinawa, and China. He was honorably discharged after the war in 1946.
Stan was united in marriage to Mavea Julia Domrese on Feb. 8, 1947 in Minneapolis. They settled in St. Cloud, where they raised their family, and Stanley worked for many years in the grocery business. In 1979 they retired and moved to Detroit Lakes.
In 1999 they moved to Elk River, and since 2005 Stanley has been living at the Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River.
Stanley was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also known for being a "grillmaster."
Surviving Stanley are his two daughters, Jan (Roger) Bialke of St. Francis, Minn., and Barbe (Tom) Jansky of St. Cloud; his two sons, Curt (Mari Johnson) Kittelson of Minneapolis and Rick (Gretchen) Kittelson of Detroit Lakes; his sister, Marilyn (Dick) Rouse of Nevis; his two brothers, James (Barb) Shortridge of Akeley and Perry (Marlene) Shortridge of Maplewood, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Kristen, Jeff, Brad, Adam, Abby, Amy, Corby, Neal and Amanda; and five great grandchildren, Julian, Jaide, Madison, Mya and Tessa.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Mavea; and sister, Audrey.
Our family wishes to thank the entire Guardian Angels Care Center Staff for the love and tender care given to both our parents Stan and Mavea over the past six years.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16 in the Nevis Church of Christ, with visitation for one hour prior to services. Pastor Barry P. Klein will be the officiant.
Inurnment will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Nevis. A memorial service will also be held at the Guardian Angels Care Center Chapel in Elk River at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 22.
