Stanley Maurice Lunde was born to parents Severt and Carrie (Raun) Lunde on October 2, 1920, on a farm east of Ulen. He attended country school at Braaten Town School until eighth grade and graduated from Ulen High School in 1937. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Ulen and was a lifetime member.
Stanley married Eldora Stende on September 20, 1947. They lived on a dairy and grain farm east of Ulen, raising five children. They moved across the road into a new home in 1981, and operated the Henhouse Greenhouse for several years.
Stanley and Eldora had several foster children through the years. He was a director for the Ulen Co-op Oil Company, Tri-County Elevator and a member of the Bethlehem Church Council. He enjoyed bowling, golf, horseshoe and was an avid whist player. They liked to travel and took their entire family on many trips. A highlight was a trip to the Holy Land in 1977. In 1997 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Eldora passed away Nov. 4, 1999. Two years later Stanley moved to Park Haven Apartments in Ulen, and became a resident of the Viking Manor Nursing Home in 2005.
Stanley passed away at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley on Thursday, September 30, 2010, two days before his 90th birthday.
Surviving Stanley are his five children, Carol (Michael) Lockhart of Ulen, Steven Lunde of Fargo, Collene (Ed) Anderson of Ulen, Ann (Duane) Shane and Alan (Christine) Lunde, both of Detroit Lakes; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers at Lake Park, Harold (Lorraine) Lunde and Alton (Marian) Lunde; sister-in-law Arlene Nygaard of Ulen and Marilyn and Harlan Nygaard, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, of Gilbert, Minn.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Eldora.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, continuing for one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, also in Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
