State archery meet held in DL
Some of the best bowhunting target shooters in the region gathered in Detroit Lakes for the 2013 Minnesota State Target shoot at the Rotary Soccer Fields last weekend.
There were a total of 117 shooters who participated in the event, with the Heart of Lakes Bowhunters hosting it.
Nine local shooters scored top three finishes during the state, as well.
“It was a great shoot, everyone enjoyed the weekend,” said HOL Bowhunter member Kyle Aho. “It was the third time the state was held in Detroit Lakes, which attracted over 100 outside visitors.”
The HOL Bowhunters will host one of the bigger state events next April 5-6, for the Minnesota State Indoor shoot, inside Kent Freeman Arena.
“There are over 900 scores shot by between 600 to 800 archers, so it’s pretty big,” Aho said.
Three HOL archers took first place in their divisions, which included Shelia Aho in the Female Freestyle, Tori Tanata in the young adult female bowhunter freestyle and Arron Erickson in the youth male bowhunter freestyle.
Those taking second included Cory Erickson in the cub male bowhunter freestyle, Colby Erickson in cub male freestyle and Kyle Aho in the male freestyle.
Three HOL archers also finished with bronze, including Kent Baldry in the senior male bowhunter freestyle, Bruce Anderson in the male freestyle open and Barry Arnold in the senior male freestyle.
