State archery tourney comes to Detroit Lakes
The Heart of Lakes Bowhunter Archery Club will be hosting the Minnesota State Target Archery Indoor Tournament April 4-6 at Kent Freeman Arena in Detroit Lakes. There will be a practice round Friday, April 4, with competitive sessions both April 5 and 6 at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
As many as 1,000 competitive archers, ranging in age from elementary school to seniors, will compete in the tournament. Targets will be arranged in both arenas of Kent Freeman Arena.
Archers will shoot 60 arrows in each class in which they have qualified in hopes of getting a perfect score of 300 (60x). There are multiple flights with awards in the tournament.
The Heart of Lakes Bowhunter Archery Club holds indoor target league in the winter at the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes two nights a week and open shooting on Sunday. The club has property east of Detroit Lakes where they host 3D target and field archery shoots during the summer. The club has about 40 members.
