State's 'Troopers and Trains' catches crossing violators
Several state troopers from the Thief River Falls and Detroit Lakes districts of the State Patrol combined July 31 to assist the Canadian Pacific Railroad with motorists that fail to stop for train crossings.
When a violation was observed, the trooper would call squad cars acting as chase units to stop the violator. Two citations and two warnings were issued.
In recent years, the number of motor-vehicle/train crashes in Minnesota has been declining. In 2008, there were 40 motor vehicle/train crashes, sixteen fewer crashes than were reported the previous year.
Although vehicle/train crashes decreased, the number of crash fatalities increased: four persons were killed in 2008 compared to two in 2007.
