Stella M. Barr, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services for Stella will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Stella Marie Miller was born to George and Ruby (Grover) Miller on April 7, 1930 in Morris, Minn. Stella grew up and was educated in Waubun.
On October 27, 1962, Stella was united in marriage to James Barr in Seattle, Wash. They resided in Seattle for three years before moving back to the Waubun area in 1965. In 1968 they moved to Callaway, where they resided until retirement.
In 1969, Stella started working for Emmanuel Nursing Home, where she was certified as a CNA. Shortly after, she provided in-home care for terminally ill patients who wanted to remain at home.
Stella taught ceramics for a number of years. She enjoyed painting, quilting, crocheting, and embroidery/needlework.
Stella will be remembered and missed by her sons, David Peltier of Detroit Lakes and Donald Peltier of Ulen; and daughter Brenda (Russell) Howard of Lake Shore, Minn. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter Roxanne; and son, Marvin; along with brothers Charles and Wesley Miller; and sister, Millie Aanerud.
David Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
