Steven E. Olander, 52, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at his home.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with interment in Bakke Lutheran Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
Steven Erick Olander was born to Lindy and Beverly (Gift) Olander on August 17, 1958 in Fargo. As a small boy, he moved to Detroit Lakes with his family. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1976. Steve was united in marriage to LaVonne Murray on July 17, 1992 in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where Steve was a transportation specialist for Olander Bus Service for 34 years.
Steve was a member of Sons of the American Legion and the Eagles. He enjoyed time with his family, children, and grandchildren, riding his Harley, was an avid golfer, bowler and loved snowmobiling. He was a kind and generous soul with a great sense of humor. He was generous with his time and talents in helping others.
Survivors include his wife LaVonne, of Detroit Lakes; a son, Nathan (Jessica) of St. Paul; daughters, Katie Olander of Detroit Lakes, Kristi (Mike) Persons of Fargo and Lisa Murray of Detroit Lakes; four grandchildren, Alaynah Olander, Kyra Olander, Jaden Persons, Peyton Persons and a grandson soon to be born; his mother, Beverly Olander of Detroit Lakes; a sister, Laurie (Stephen) Grotnes of Detroit Lakes; aunts and uncles, Patsy and Sheldon "Sam" Sumner of Detroit Lakes and Jim and Hattie Rislund of Waubun.
Preceding him in death were his father, Lindy Olander; an infant daughter, Trisha; grandparents, Floyd and Ida Gift and Carl and Viola Olander.
