Thanks to community members from Detroit Lakes to Fargo, 85 stockings are being sent to troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Kosovo.

Last year, at Veterans Day time, David-Donehower Funeral Home's Shawn Nygaard suggested asking the community to stuff the stockings for troops. They collected about 20-25.

The military provides a list of items soldiers need like beef jerky, video games, batteries, sunflower seeds, etc.

This year, the funeral home collected about 85 stockings to send overseas. The stockings are shipped to an individual soldier, but are shared with others.

David-Donehower Director Dave Karsnia said what's really heartwarming is the notes they receive back from the troops, saying the stockings made their difficult Christmas a little more bearable.
