He has been working with stained glass for the past 25 years; first as a student and then as a teacher at Lightbenders in Fargo.

His educational background is in Architecture, Industrial Illustration, Graphic Design and Art, with an emphasis in Art History and Photography. He studied Art History for a summer in Europe and visited a number of Gothic cathedrals.

Larson says, "I was impressed with the stained glass windows which played a large part in establishing the character of these churches."

Also, during several visits to New York City, Larson viewed the stained glass windows of Louis Comfort Tiffany in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a collection of stained-glass Tiffany lamps at the New York Historical Society. Robb notes, "Tiffany created glass to reflect the color and tonal variations found in nature. In a way, he was able to "paint pictures using glass."

Larson's work is strongly influenced by the work of Tiffany. Frank Lloyd Wright and his Prairie School of Architecture designed windows, in direct contrast to the era of Tiffany. Wright's detailed window designs, were based on nature but used strong geometric elements and solid earth-tone colors.

"In my latest series of windows, glass pictures of irises, tulips and sunflowers, I combine the interplay of lights and darks of multicolored glass of Tiffany with the illustrative details of Wright to create lifelike images in a more patterned environment," Larson says.

The windows in this exhibit represent a small sample of Larson's work over the course of 25 years. Much of his art is commissioned and for sale.

You may view the exhibit at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1401 Madison Ave., Detroit Lakes, every Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
