Susan L. Krogen, 101, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.
Susan L. Ost was born to Albert and Eva Gerber Ost on Nov. 13, 1907 in Napoleon, N.D. She grew up on a farm near Napoleon and attended school there, graduating from Napoleon High School. She then attended Bismarck Business College.
Susan married Christ Sayler and they made their home in Red Oak, Iowa, where they owned and operated a grocery store. Later they moved to Callaway, where they farmed. Susan worked for Norby's Department Store in Detroit Lakes and then as a secretary for Wething Chiropractic, also in Detroit Lakes. They retired in the 1970s and moved into Detroit Lakes. Christ died in 1982.
Susan later married Clarence Krogen. She was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Detroit Lakes for many years. She liked to travel, work crossword puzzles, and spend time with family and friends.
Surviving Susan are her two daughters, Donna Hamre, of Detroit Lakes and Wilma (Bill) Godfrey of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Preceding Susan in death were her parents, first husband, Christ Sayler (1982); second husband, Clarence Krogen (1998); one daughter, Beverly Thomas; one son-in-law, George Hamre; one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
Casket bearers are Mark and Kathy Hamre Clark and LeAnn Hamre and Clayton and Cathy Hamre.
