Behind yet another double-digit strikeout performance by sophomore pitcher Mason Swegarden, the Lake Park-Audubon baseball team trampled over visiting Fertile-Beltrami 11-0 in five innings Tuesday.

Swegarden was his dominant self against the Falcon lineup, starting out with three consecutive strikeouts to open the game and ending it with a three-K inning in the fifth.

He finished with a total of 12 strikeouts, which ups his total to a phenomenal 63 in just 33 innings of work.

"It's always key for me to start out fast right off the bat," Swegarden said of his first-inning strikeout fest. "My change-up wasn't working too well today, but I had my fastball going, with a good breaking ball."

The sophomore hurler was just one hit away from a no-hitter, but the Falcons had a bunt single in the fourth inning to break it up.

"It's obviously nice to have had a no-hitter, but I think of a shutout as being more, because if you can't score, you can't win," Swegarden said.

The Raider bats also were as lively as Swegarden's fastball, with LP-A producing timely hits, resulting in a three-run second, two-run third and a back-breaking six runs in the fourth.

Korey Mickelson had the big hit in the fourth with a bases-clearing double, while Swegarden added an RBI double in the next at-bat.

"The defense impressed me and they made most of the plays," said LP-A head coach Taylor Fuhs. "The guys also hit the ball hard and their situational hitting is improving. Korey came up big and he is picking up confidence at the plate."

The win brings the Raiders back to .500 at 6-6, and they will have a tough challenge Friday in New York Mills against the 14-0 and No. 5 Class 1A ranked Eagles, starting at 4:30 p.m.
