Sylvia Bakke, 85, of Twin Valley, died Friday, September 24, 2010, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Sylvia Geneva Bakke was born the daughter of Knute and Johanna (Ellingson) Bakke on March 4, 1925 in Moorhead. She was raised in Glyndon, and was a graduate of the Glyndon High School. As a young lady she moved with her family to the Syre, Minn., community. She worked on the family farm until her parents' death in 1963.
Sylvia then moved to Detroit Lakes, where she was employed at a laundromat until the mid-1980s. At that time, she moved to Twin Valley to live with her sister, Gladys. She was employed at the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home in housekeeping until her retirement in 1997.
Sylvia made her home at the Valley Pines Apartments until entering the Twin Valley Living Center in 2008, and resided there until the time of her death.
Sylvia loved taking walks around town and going for drives in her car. She was a member of Assemblies of God Church in Detroit Lakes, where she enjoyed participating in the church activities.
Surviving Sylvia are her niece, Janice (John) Vleck of Pullman, Wash.; two nephews, Marvin (Laura) Berg of Anchorage, Alaska and Dean Berg of West Fargo; six great nephews and five great nieces.
Preceding her in death were her parents; twin sister, Gladys; and one nephew, Orvin.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27 in the Twin Valley Living Center Chapel, Twin Valley, with visitation for one hour before services. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Wayne Thom, with Julia Mae Gullingsrud serving as organist and Julie Thornton and Karen Bergstrom serving as vocalists.
Burial will be in the Syre Lutheran Cemetery, Syre, Minn.
